SÉBASTIEN PITT
Bio:
Sébastien Pitt is an independent professional Canadian artist specializing in digital arts. Recognized in his field by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, his practice spans across audiovisual installations, performances, augmented reality, and NFTs.
He crafts his works using a meticulously calibrated performative system, integrating high-definition 3D elements that dynamically respond to sound compositions created by modular synthesizers. His aesthetic exploration delves into the intersection of the intangible and the visible, manifesting through layers of generative textures and the revelation of virtual objects, thereby navigating the intricate relationship between perception and emotion.
His works have been featured on esteemed platforms such as Blackdove (2024), TheCurated.app (2023), and ArtificialMuseum.com at the Vienna Art Week (2023). Notable exhibitions include showcases at Nathan Philips Square in Toronto (2023), New City Gaz by OxSociety, Montréal (2022), and at the Société des arts technologiques [SAT] during the 7th edition of the Symposium IX — Sound & Immersion, Montréal (2021).

Espace d’un scandale
For this « First Friday by Digital Dreams KC » ; Sébastien Pitt proposes an unminted work rooted in his artistic approach known as Segments, each artwork conjures a dreamscape, weaving between perceptions and affects. These ethereal and abstract scenery represent a sublimation originating from the imaginary states that occasionally emerge within the interstices of sleep.
Generated from a custom-made MAX8 patch integral to a 3D audiovisual live performance setup, the artwork, awaiting rendering, will be set to be featured in a continuous loop at 4k resolution and 60 frames per second as an .mp4 file. This particular piece is baptized « Espace d’un scandale » (Scandalous Space).
By giving it this unusual dub, the artist endeavors to secure at least one of the six spots in this identity-themed exhibition for a piece of generative abstraction. This conjuncture merely reflects a defiant contrast around the realm of identity art, which has now become a rather exclusive mainstream movement, primarily inciting crafty, pompous, figurative, narcissistic incuse art submissions.
For what it's worth, the artist believes that what defines oneself as a digital artist is not the pedigree nor the online persona, but rather one’s ability to create digitally native artworks that evolve as a unique aesthetic, regardless of soft tools, while maintaining conceptual consistency over trends.
But then again, who cares?
